Volunteering with Furniture Plus

Do you have some spare time during the day? From as little as 1 hour a week, to 5 days a week, we could fill your time!

Volunteering in the Operations Department

With 7 vehicles servicing 3 sites, the operations side of the work is always busy. Undertaking around 7,000 free furniture collections a year, delivering furniture to customers, sorting donations, moving furniture into the sales areas, and assisting sales staff in appropriate displays, takes up a great deal of man hours. As such, we need a big team to work together. In general, volunteers would need to be physically fit as there is a lot of heavy lifting involved, but there are some lighter duties available too.


Opportunities include:

Delivery/Collection Assistant

Helping one of our drivers in the delivery and collection of donated items to/from our warehouses.

Warehouse Assistant

Assisting in the sorting, moving, preparation and display of donated items

Cleaning Assistant

Assisting in cleaning the donated items to make them available for sale, including polishing, washing and use of steam cleaner on suites etc.



Volunteering in the Sales Department

With sales areas of 4,000sqft (Dysart), 12,000sqft (Inverkeithing) and 1,000sqft (Cowdenbeath), and a countless stream of customers, our sales teams are always busy. From selling an ornament, right up to kitting out a whole house, there is always someone who can be helped through what we have to offer. They could be a general customer, or someone referred to us by a local social welfare provider or housing association. But all are treated the same, as valued customers.

Opportunities include:

Sales Assistant
Assisting in the sale of items to the public

Non-Furniture Sorting
Sorting through donated bric-a-brac, china, ornaments, pots & pans, bedding, clothing etc and making suitable items ready for sale either in store or through our eBay site.






Volunteering in the Administration Department

The 7,000 collections a year do not happen by accident. Calls are logged and a range of questions need to be asked of the donors before we can proceed with the collection. Details are then entered onto a database to ensure that the vehicles have the right amount of jobs for each day. On top of that, there is a wide range of activities that go on, sometimes unnoticed, but all of which assist in the smooth running of Furniture Plus.

Opportunities include:

Telephone Operative
Answering calls from customers and dealing with as appropriate

Filing Assistant
Assisting in the correct filing and storage of all documents as required

IT Assistant
Assisting in the data input for collections and deliveries plus other general IT work including, if able, updating the website.
